Indicator flasher unit issues?
Hi there
I have a single arm indicator tree system on my 1976 Mini 998. The indicators all work fine but I have issue with the flasher not working intermittently (works good for a couple of weeks, and then doesn't for a couple). All the indicator light bulbes are fine.
I'm pretty sure it is a flasher unit problem (probably a dry joint)..... Can I replace the flasher unit or am I best to replace the whole indicator tree?

Flasher unit clip
Any ideas where I can get a flasher relay clip for round relay for 1978 Mini. It appears to have been discontinued but are there any alternatives?

flasher
My 1987 city has developed an intermittent indicator fault, niether the hazards or flashers work, then the flashers will start for a short while. the hazard unit is beyond repair ( snaped the terminals off) but they are both the square units. do both have to be working for the flashers to work?

What is this? Need some help
Looks like it might be the hazard flasher unit. It will either be plugged into a socket in the bulkhead, or just hanging loose with some wires connected at the back.

Re:
Just replace the indicator flasher unit, but also check out your fuse box, because these can sometimes cause problems when corroded.

hazzard lights work but my indecaters dont
The indicators use a different fuse from the hazards, so check that first. Have you checked the indicator relay (flasher unit)?

Indicator relay on 1986 Mini
There should be a green feed from the fuse box to the flasher unit. This spurs off at the flasher unit and continues onto the wiper motor switch. The light green brown then goes to the column flash switch where it provides power to either green/white or green/red depending on which side you want. I would recommend tracing each wire back in turn to see where it goes but this might mean opening the loom unless you can remove the connector from the wiper motor switch and run a resistance check for continuity instead. (disconnect battery first just in case)
I had a two prong flasher that went wrong. The new ones had three prongs and it took a couple of goes to locate the correct pair on the new unit.

No indicators
Hi Timothy,
They have seperate flasher units. Sounds like your indicator flasher unit has blown.
Try changing that and if the problem persists come back to the forum with the model and year or your mini so we can check the wiring diagrams and advise further. The flasher unit is the first port of call though as it isn't the bulbs or local wiring.

Front lights work, rear dont
HI, I'm in a spot of bother with my lights. Firstly my indicators gave up the ghost the other day and I managed to trace that fault to the flasher unit, however since changing the unit I have now got no rear driving lights, brake, indicator and reverse all work, also all my dash lights have gone but my front side, dip and main are all working. Is there a fuse somewhere that controls the rear and dash lights or has anyone got any suggestions? Cheers.

John
'lights,camera and no indicator action!!!'
most likly either flasher unit has failed or hazard switch is playing up as they do quite often which can stop indicators working. try rocking back and forth the hazard switch then try again.

hazards
Daft question, so please excuse me. When your hazards flash, do they all flash ? Not sure of the number for your flasher unit, but look for ones that show 4 + 2 indicators on them.
